What does awning repair mean here?

At Rose City Awning & Flag, awning repair means servicing what can be fixed and recovering what can’t. Worn or torn fabric isn’t patched; it’s replaced with a new cover made for your existing frame. Frames, arms, motors, limit switches and hardware are serviced, including on other companies’ awnings.

Recover or replace: which one is yours?

It comes down to the frame. A sound frame gets a new cover. A failing frame or a worn-out system is where a new awning starts to make sense.

“…they picked the color from a picture I sent them and with just a couple measurements they had a new cover sewn up and ready in no time.”

“I have a very unique, motorized awning that I had custom built by another, out-of-reach company. I had two other companies look at it and declined… they researched the specs and made it happen.”

“We had an existing awning recovered… After it was installed one of the workers spent extra time adjusting the extension and retraction limit switches.”

Awning repair questions

For the fastest answer, send two photos: the whole awning, and a close-up of the problem. Add the brand if you know it.

Can my awning be repaired, or does it need a recover?

It depends on what failed. Motors, limit switches, arms and hardware can usually be serviced or repaired, on our awnings or another company’s. Worn, faded or torn fabric is different: we don’t run weathered fabric through our machines, so instead of a patch, Rose City Awning & Flag recovers the awning with a new cover sewn for your existing frame.

Do you repair awnings another company installed?

Often, yes. We service motors, limit switches and hardware on awnings and motorized shades from other makers, and we can sew a new cover for another company’s frame. Send photos of the whole awning and the problem, plus the brand if you know it.

How much does it cost to recover an awning?

A recover is priced by the size and shape of the frame, the fabric you pick, and any lettering or valance. Awnings we installed are quicker to quote because their specs are likely on file. Photos of the whole awning are often enough for a ballpark.

How long will an awning last?

The frame usually outlasts the fabric, and fabric can be replaced with a recover. In our experience, SummerSpace retractable awnings with stainless steel chain drives run 15 to 20 or more years in Portland; belt-drive budget awnings often run 3 to 7.

How do you clean an awning without removing it?

Most fabric awnings can be cleaned in place, without taking them down. Rose City Awning & Flag offers cleaning and maintenance, and we’re happy to share pressure-washing companies if you’d rather hire one directly.

Can you match my old awning fabric?

Often. Rose City Awning belongs to the International Fabrics Association, which gives us access to its large fabric database to help locate hard-to-find patterns. One customer had a replacement cover color-matched from a photo.
