Portland’s awning shop, since 1954
We design, sew and weld at one address in Northwest Portland, as we have since 1954. If you’re in Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Happy Valley, Clackamas or Vancouver, you’re in our backyard. We work down the valley in Salem too, and our Bend team covers Bend and Redmond in Central Oregon. Further out? Ask; we’ll tell you straight.

How it works
From NW Nela Street to your wall
Wherever the project is, it runs the same way: one shop, start to finish, and the same people on it.
01Photos & your addressSend a few photos and where the project is. A wide shot of the wall and a rough measurement are often enough for a ballpark.
02Showroom or site visitCome see fabric books at 2728 NW Nela St, or we come out to measure. Consultations are free.
03Made in our shopCovers are sewn and frames welded on NW Nela Street. Graphics are cut and applied here too.
04Installed by our crewThe people who built it put it up, and walk you through how it works.
05Looked after for yearsIf we installed it, we keep its specs, so a recover later doesn’t start with a re-measure.

Permits
Permits depend on the city
Awning rules are local. We check what applies to your address before you order.
Inside Portland
City Code Chapter 32.52
Sets structural, clearance and maintenance standards for awnings, and attachments must meet the building code. Storefront projects most often need a permit.

Each city’s building office
Beaverton, Tigard, Lake Oswego and West Linn apply Oregon’s statewide building codes through their own building divisions, and Vancouver follows Washington’s. Sign and design rules differ by city. Include the address, and we’ll tell you what to expect before anything is built.

Service area questions
Does Rose City Awning serve my area?
Rose City Awning & Flag works from 2728 NW Nela St in Northwest Portland and has since 1954. We install across Portland and the metro, including Beaverton, Tigard, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Happy Valley, Clackamas and Vancouver, Washington, and as far south as Salem. In Central Oregon, our Bend team works with clients in Bend and Redmond. For anywhere else, call (503) 226-2761 or include the address with your estimate request, and we’ll confirm before anything is scheduled.
Which towns near Portland do you work in?
Our core service area is Portland plus Beaverton (about 6 miles from the shop), Vancouver, WA (7 miles), Tigard (8 miles), Lake Oswego (9 miles), Happy Valley (11 miles), Clackamas (12 miles) and West Linn (13 miles), measured as the crow flies from NW Nela Street. The same crew measures, builds and installs every metro project. In Central Oregon, our Bend team handles clients in Bend and Redmond. See the towns we serve.
Where is the Rose City Awning showroom?
At 2728 NW Nela St, Portland, OR 97210, about 2.4 miles from downtown. It’s open Monday to Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, and Friday and Saturday by appointment, with fabric books you can handle before you choose. Get directions.
Is the consultation free, and do you come to me?
Yes to both. Consultations are free, and we come out to measure, whether you’re in Portland or one of the towns nearby. Photos and a rough measurement are often enough for a ballpark first; what affects awning cost explains the main price drivers.
Do I need a permit for an awning in Portland?
Often, especially for storefronts. Portland City Code Chapter 32.52 sets structural, clearance and maintenance standards for awnings, and permits are issued by Portland Permitting & Development. We tell you what applies to your address before you order. More in our guide to storefront awnings, signs and permits.
Do I need a permit in Beaverton, Tigard, Lake Oswego, West Linn or Vancouver?
It depends on the city and the project. Each has its own building office: Beaverton, Tigard, Lake Oswego, West Linn and Vancouver. Oregon cities apply the statewide codes from the Oregon Building Codes Division. We check before you order.
How do I check an awning contractor’s license?
In Oregon, construction contractors must be licensed by the Construction Contractors Board; look any company up on the Oregon CCB license search. For work in Vancouver, Washington, use Washington L&I’s Verify a Contractor tool. Our six questions to ask an awning company cover the rest.
Can you repair an awning another company installed?
Often, yes, in Portland and the towns we serve. We recover worn fabric on sound frames and repair motors, limit switches and hardware on retractables and motorized shades from other makers. Send photos and the brand if you know it. See awning repair and recovers.
Tell us where the project is
A photo, a rough measurement and the address are all we need to start. We’ll confirm coverage and come back with a ballpark.
